OpenSimKit

During his studies of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Stuttgart, the author signed up to the lecture “System-Simulation”. There he was introduced to the open-source system simulation tool OpenSimKit which was used as a teaching example. He was for some years one of the main contributors to OpenSimKit. OpenSimKit is also used in the book “Simulating Spacecraft Systems” (which was partly translated by the author) by J. Eickhoff as an example application.

Young Graduate Trainee

After University he joined the European space agency (ESA) as a young graduate trainee in the ground segment software section where he worked with other non open-source simulation frameworks. The frustration with the limitations of OpenSimKit combined with the non open-source nature of commercial system simulation tools lead to the idea of developing a new and open-source state of the art system-simulation framework.
